Morpeth 08:47
On a Sunday, they go cycling to the meadows Passed the boating lake, over river Nene Keep your head right up, see the butterflies ahead There is more right round the bend And at Falmouth docks, staying in a little cottage They are dancing to folk music at the bar And to Kynance Cove, they see the stone horse disappear Now they're older by one more year Maybe one day I will find you Walking through an empty neighbourhood And maybe before you will see me Searching down this lonely avenue But, time has been unkind and I don't know what's true So if there's some time to talk it over, Can you help me to remember? If there's still some space in my mind To look back and find and remember those days They retell their stories of yesteryear The summer and the fall And they realise, over tea and wine That not much has changed at all They relive what once was real Feeling happy like before Even after all of these years

Patricia 08:49
3.
Silence, As the tide falls further, Can't hear your voice amongst these crashing waves, You can't be my water now
4.
The Pond 06:48
Going down to the end of the garden, And you see your blurred reflection in the pond And it's you, but five years younger Don't you think that she'd be proud? Of you, at the end of the garden Then you feel the broken leaves beneath your feet And you feel it, it's getting colder But you stay outside a moment more to think Going down to the garden And you see your blurred reflection in the pond Going down to see the garden, the garden, the garden Going down to see the garden, to find your blurred reflection in the pond

about

Recorded live at Birmingham Symphony Hall, "Somewhere, Not So Far Away" is the debut recording of the Olivia Murphy Jazz Orchestra (OMJO).
This live EP features some of the most exciting young musicians and improvisers from London and Birmingham and is directed by the composer herself.

The four featured compositions are about loved ones and cherished memories of childhood while being a reflection on Olivia's own life so far.

This recording and performance was generously supported by the Help Musicians Peter Whittingham Jazz Award and B:Music. Track Morpeth, Patricia & Clockwork and Water were originally commissioned by the Henry Barber Trust / University of Birmingham Jazz Orchestra.

A special thanks to:

this wonderful band for playing so beautifully,
Rohit and Tony for believing in this project from the very beginning,
Django for his kind words of advice,
Help Musicians for their support
&
Olly, my friends and my family for always being there
